Primroses are all over the Devon countryside in spring

Stone Farm is situated one mile from Bridford and one mile from Christow in the Teign Valley. The 'farm' is set in a valley in seven acres of fields, woodland and garden bounded by Rookery Brook and it is a haven of peace, yet within easy reach of Exeter, Newton Abbot, Torquay, Okehampton and of course Dartmoor.

The nearest beaches are Dawlish, Dawlish Warren and Teignmouth which are only 30 minutes drive away or you may wish to go slightly further afield to Sidmouth, Budleigh Salterton and Exmouth or even the South Hams.

There are wonderful opportunities for walking either up the lane from the cottage; two miles away to Tottiford, Kennick and Trenchford Reservoirs; along the River Teign at Steps Bridge; to our nearest tor, Blackingstone Rock; on to Dartmoor or to the Haldon Hills and then the coast with the South West Coastal Path. We have a good library of maps and walking books and are always happy to advise visitors on walks.

There are a number of good golf courses in the area, the nearest being the local Teign Valley course beside the river. Slightly further away are Stover, Teignmouth, Exeter Golf and Country Club, Fingle Glen and Bovey Castle at Moretonhampstead.

Ornithologists or just amateurs can watch birds of prey from the special viewpoint in Haldon Forest, waders and migrants on the famous River Exe estuary and ravens, buzzards and other hawks from our garden.

We have a wonderful variety of National Trust properties within easy driving distance. The closest is Castle Drogo looking out over Dartmoor but Killerton, Knightshayes, A La Ronde, Buckland Abbey, Coleton Fishacre, Greenway, Compton Castle and many others are all within reach - one for every day of your stay! www.nationaltrust.org.uk

There are riding stables and trekking centres nearby as well as facilities for coarse fishing and flyfishing.

EATING AND DRINKING

At the end of the day or even at lunchtime we can direct you to some really good local pubs and restaurants. Our nearest pub is The Bridford Inn run by Simon and Corinna.  They offer a very friendly welcome, are happy for you to bring your dog and the food is good.  There are folk and jazz evenings and a small shop attached to the pub which is open during pub hours.
The local Teign House Inn, just down the road near the river, has a good selection of beers, a friendly host and fish and chips freshly cooked on Fridays to eat in or take away.
The well known Nobody Inn is only two miles away and is renowned for its range of whiskies, wine and English cheeses.
The Artichoke at Christow has a wide menu and The Manor at Ashton has a good range of home cooked food. For gourmet meals why not try Michael Caines at the Royal Clarence or St Olaves in Exeter, The Holne Chase at Ashburton, Combe House at Gittisham, 22 Mill Street or Gidleigh Manor at Chagford.
